I strutted into Caramel Restaurant and Lounge at about 8:00pm on Thursday 7th May, and I must say, the last time I saw so many good looking, influential and downright dapper men was in the Television show, Mad Men. I was there for the unveiling of the ‘Made for Gentlemen’ collection by Chivas Regal in collaboration with fashion designer John Kaveke.
As Chivas Brand Manager Kabeyu Katunga put it, the purpose of the event was simply to introduce men to the world of chivalry. In a bid to pay tribute to men that recognize the value of true craftsmanship and don’t mind expressing their success through luxurious items exclusively made for them, Chivas had commissioned Kaveke to create bespoke jackets for eight leading Kenyan entrepreneurs.
One by one, Nelson Aseka, Brand Education Manager for Pernod Ricard set out to introduce the other seven ambassadors to the guests: talented photographer Emmanuel Jambo, sports marketer Martin Keino – who you would never believe is in his mid 40s, news personality Eric Latiff, online entrepreneur Mikul Shah – who was seemingly quite popular with the crowd, quantity surveyor Sasha Mutai who joked that his was the most boring profession of the lot, Wycliffe Saduma who seemed to have a grin plastered ever so generously across his face all evening and Access Kenya MD Kris Senanu who revealed that his style was all his wife’s doing.
Guests were taken through a tasting of the Chivas 12, 18 and 25 that were perfectly paired with sushi, beef and dark chocolate respectively. The ‘Made for Gentlemen’ collection was certainly bold, smooth and classy, a perfect match for the craftsmanship that goes into the blending of the top quality whisky.
