The Heron Portico Hotel which is located along Milimani road today announced the acquisition of Zehneria Hotel. This venture is taken up by Sarova Hotels and Resorts in a bid to increase their market share in Kenya’s hospitality industry. Rebranding to Zehneria Portico, the 3 star hotel in Westlands joins over 70 hotels in 48 destinations under the international hotel management company.
Speaking during the announcement, Mr. Karim Teja, Heron Portico’s Managing Director, said this move was in line with their strategy to tap into the growing middle class in Africa and to boost business tourism at the same time. Part of the list of improvements Zehneria will benefit from this partnership include the food and beverage section which will be revamped to world class standards.
Sarovar’s executive director in charge of new developments in India and abroad, Mr. Ajay Bakaya, said the group has been operational in Kenya over the past five years and is working towards new ventures. This includes the development of a 5 star hotel at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Plans are also underway to set up hotels in the Middle East, therefore contributing to the tourism economy and employment sector.
