Yes, that’s right! The holy grail recipe of fried chicken has been found by a reporter named Mr. Jay Jones from the Chicago Tribune! Although KFC denies the recipe is the one served today at over 20,000 locations across the globe, a taste test suggests that it is pretty close!
Who revealed the top secret recipe, you may ask? Well, reporter Mr. Jay Jones visited Kentucky to write a travel piece on the Harland Sanders Café and Museum, which is where Colonel Sanders first served his chicken to motorists in 1930.
On this trip, he met Sanders’ 67 year old nephew Joe Leddington. Joe shared the Colonel’s second deceased wife’s last will and testament which had a write up at the back consisting of the 11 herbs and spices that have been kept secret.
The writing included this recipe below:
2 cups white flour
2/3 tablespoon salt
1/2 tablespoon thyme
1/2 tablespoon basil
1/3 tablespoon oregano
1 tablespoon celery salt
1 tablespoon black pepper
1 tablespoon dried mustard
4 tablespoons paprika
2 tablespoons garlic salt
1 tablespoon ground ginger
3 tablespoons white pepper
When the newspaper later contacted Joe, he refused to confirm the recipe for sure. The newspaper then added MSG /monosodium glutamate (sodium salt of glutamic acid), and proclaimed the recipe as the real deal!
KFC then issued a statement confirming MSG as one of the ingredients but denied the recipe claims saying that: “Many people have made these claims over the years and no one has been accurate, this one isn’t either.”
You be the judge! Try out the recipe and let us know if it is indeed, finger lickin’ good!
